Changes to First Aid Training Courses

On May 7th 2013, all accredited first aid training delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTO) was required to be transitioned to the new first aid courses. The courses which were required to be transition were the Perform CPR, Apply First Aid & the advanced courses.

These transitions introduce new content that must be covered by the training company. So we thought we would share some insights into what has changed and what you will be learning when you next refresh your training.

  • Perform CPR – course content must cover all type of casualties, being adult, child and infant
  • Apply First Aid – risk assessments of the workplace, knowledge of how body position affects asphyxia (e.g. body position after a car incident) and confined spaces.
  • Advanced courses – substance misuse, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Childbirth, Standard Operating Procedures for the workplace (SOP) and leadership in emergencies.
