A certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety training (also known as cert 4 WHS or OHS) is the recommended minimum requirement for workplace safety representatives.

Although the course length and scope is not as comprehensive as a Diploma course, which would be more suitable for a role as a WH&S Compliance Manager, the Cert IV is suitable as a strong foundation and introduction into the world of WH&S compliance management, legalities and legislations, as well as risk minimisation.

This course is also well-suited to those who act in various supporting roles in the field of Health and Safety and also Risk Management in the Workplace.

Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety Details

Face-to-face WHS course equips participants with the basic knowledge required to act in a WHS/Compliance Manager support/assistant role. Whilst not as comprehensive as a diploma or Advanced Diploma course, the units of competency covered, – listed below – are essential requirements to work in the field of WHS and Risk Management/Minimisation.

Cert IV WHS training course consists of 5 days face-to-face classroom-based training. Students are expected to complete readings and a project/written assessment task in their own time. Following the topics and units of competency will be covered:

Course Duration

This qualification is broken up into Five (5) clusters each consisting of Two (2) units per cluster.

This qualification structure consists of Five (5) days face to face training which equates to 35 hours of face to face learning (course runs on a 9.00am-5.00pm basis with (1) one hour of breaks during the day). Students are expected to complete readings and a project/written assessment task in their own time.

Students will be given up to 12 months to complete their final written assessments/project.

Students will have access to 24hr support from trainers and assessors through phone and email contact. Trainers also conduct ongoing assessment check in and support throughout the duration of the course.

Cert IV WHS Course Requirements

Laptop or portable tablet device with WiFi functionality.

A laptop or WiFi enabled tablet device is necessary to complete the course materials during the face-to-face training sessions.

Attendance

ENTRY TO THE COURSE WILL BE REFUSED IF PARTICIPANT ARRIVES 30 MINUTES AFTER THE SCHEDULED STARTING TIME

Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior the scheduled starting time to complete the necessary registration paperwork.

Identification

Qualification CAN NOT BE ISSED IF A PARTICIPANT FAILS TO PROVIDE A VALID ID

Participants must provide one form of valid I.D. (e.g. passport, driver’s licence, proof of age card, student card).

Basic understanding of English language

PARTICIPANTS WILL BE REFUSED CLASS ENTRY IF BASIC LEVEL OF ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS AREN’T MET

All participants are required to have a basic comprehension of reading and writing in English to successfully complete Cert IV WHS training.

Use of interpreters or translators is not allowed.

ENTRANCE INTO THE CLASS WILL BE BASED ON THE OUTCOME OF THE LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY (LLN) TEST.

The LLN test consists of a series of simple questions to determine the level of participant’s language, literacy and numeracy. LLN test is available to all participants.

IMPORTANT: USI Requirement

STATEMENT OF TRAINING CAN NOT BE ISSUED IF A PARTICIPANT FAILS TO PROVIDE A VALID USI NUMBER

From 1 January 2015, every student who undertakes nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia is required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

USI can be obtained via online application through USI portal https://www.usi.gov.au

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a reference made up of 10 numbers and letters. It creates a secure online record of student’s recognised training and qualification gained in Australia and allows to access training records and transcripts.
